Velo Solar is proud to announce the completion of a 50 kW solar project at its Atlanta-based Monday Night Brewing – The Garage. The commercial solar array will provide an energy and carbon offset, and is one of many sustainable measures the organization has spearheaded. Financing for the system was done through a SEPA arrangement, and will be cashflow positive from Day One.

“Velo Solar made the transition to solar energy uncomplicated. They took care of all of the hurdles, and it will be cashflow positive from the Day 1.”

Sharon Lee:

Hello, how are you?

Joel Iverson:

Very good.

Sharon Lee:

So apart from solar, tell us a little bit more about other sustainability initiatives you have.

Joel Iverson:

We actually take a lot of our scrap cans, and it’s a partnership with Mercedes-Benz Stadium and with Habitat for Humanity. They use that money to build houses. In our brewing process, there’s the spent yeast. We got it approved as a soil amendment in the state of Georgia and a farmer comes, and he takes it, spreads it on his fields.

Sharon Lee:

So I have to ask, how your experience was with Velo Solar?

Joel Iverson:

The actual solar panels, the electrical, things that actually make solar work, are relatively simple. Right? All the other stuff, whether it be the regulated utility company or the government permits, those are the complicated things. They helped walk you through all those other hurdles. We’re excited to start to see the savings over time. Initially, I was anticipating it was going to be this high capital costs, and Velo kind of came with a pretty creative proposal to say, Hey, install the panels and be cash flow positive from day one when they’re turned on.

Sharon Lee:

So we had an event on Beltline, just a happy hour. Favorite, hands down, was the Taco Tuesday.

Joel Iverson:

We have a lot of fun making the big kind of Taco Tuesday, which is going to be grocery store 12 pack to tiny little small batches like this that you can only enjoy here at The Garage.

Sharon Lee:

Benefits from solar itself? Have we pretty much covered those or do you have other possibilities?

Joel Iverson:

I do think that there is a messaging and customer benefit. To say, you can host your event here at Monday Night Garage, and a hundred percent of the power that was used for your event came from solar power.

Sharon Lee:

Well, cheers. Thanks for talking to us today.

Joel Iverson:

Hey. Cheers.
